My biggest wins have been remembering to make the conscious decision to not use single-use plastics! My biggest struggle has been remembering to check in with the ecochallenge website 😅

They have been doing an amazing job!

Happy Plastic Free July Eve! Are you ready for tomorrow? Got your actions picked? Got your reusable bags ready?

It is the perfect day for another tip! And with a few warm summer months ahead of us, this one seems timely:

In this world, we go through 4000 disposable plastic razors each minute. Check out some of the reusable options below for your shaving needs instead!
    • This nick stop razor which is safe to use anywhere on your body and comes highly recommended for beards
    • This affordable double edge safety razor great for faces (available locally at Less Than)
    • This triple blade razor ideal for curves, nooks, hard to reach spots, heads, legs, and much more!
    • This exfoliating dermaplaner
    • And while you're at it, if you need a waste free alternative to shaving cream check out shaving soap bars from companies like Badger Organic, Ecoroots Organic, Jungle Culture, and manymany more

    Tip time!

While we're on the topic on plastic habits that might be easy to kick, how about that single use plastic water bottle? Humans use approximately 1.2 million plastic bottles every single minute of every single day. If you can, skip the throw away bottle and quench your thirst from something reusable. You already know, I'm going to link some cute options below!

    • Glass orb water bottle that is lead free, taste free, and gorgeous according to reviewers. You can also add the insulated organic cotton bag to keep your warm cold or hot.
    • Tree people water bottles are double insulated , leak proof, and have a lifetime warranty. They also plant a tree for every purchase which is a nice added bonus.
    • If you drink a LOT of water and need something lighter or larger (and a lot of fun too) Hydro Jug has a wide variety of bottle sizes and insulated sleeves to pair with whichever bottle you pick

    Tip time!

Did you guys know that 100 billion plastic grocery bags are used each year for an average of 12 minutes each? Next time you go to the grocery store, skip the bags! There are some pretty handy options for alternatives these days:

Tip number two - inspired by a conversation during a meeting last week.

Did you know tea sachets often contain plastic? But don't worry - there is a super easy (and cute) way to keep that caffeine fix (or relaxation ritual) in your life!

Plastic free tea starts with loose leaf tea. You can purchase online at places like Art of Tea and DAVIDsTEA or you can shop locally! Southern Virginia Tea Company and OverAchieving Tea are two good places to start. After you have your tea, all you need is some hot water, a mug, and a tea infuser. Check out the fun options below (yes, there are options that aren't cute animals, but why would you want them?!):

    1. Narwhal infuser
    2. ManaTEA infuser
    3. Wooden tea infusers (including, but not limited to, a bear and a halibut)

Are you guys ready for a fun month?! What changes are you hoping to make to your life style? I'm kicking off our first countdown tip post with something that was a new one on me - soap nuts anyone?!

Are you still using those big plastic jugs for your laundry? Would you be open to making the switch if there was something else that was easy, affordable, and even a little fun? Well then, get ready for your first dose of good luck, because there is!

I'm starting my list of alternatives with the most unique option and going from there but there are TONS of other options out there so you can find something that works for you and your family:

    1. Soap nuts (actually, they're berries!) - 10 cents per load
    2. Laundry powder (available online via subscription and locally at Less Than in bulk) - 30 cents per load initially and then 23 cents per load for refills (online - it comes out to about 35 cents per load from the Less Than refill bar)
    3. Liquid detergent (available locally at Less Than from their refill bar) - 40 cents per load

Bonus - did you know dryer sheets are also made from plastic? Well never fear because turns out, you can replace them with these adorableeeeeee (and job appropriate) wool dryer balls! Miss the smell of your sheets? Load these little cuties up with essential oils!
