  • Reflection Question
    Family Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
Most of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I really enjoy being creative in my reusing and re-purposing.  Here at the zoo we re-purpose Grain bags into shopping bags and animal enrichment.

At home I like to re-purpose old clothes.  Right now I am working on making a bunch of old tee shirts from collage into a quilt.  doing this makes me feel great bout saving textiles from landfills and keeping the old memories around!

I wanted to encourage those who are joining my team and say that cutting down on plastic waste is easy, the first steps are things that you probably have in your home! Bring a reusable water bottle to work, pack metal forks and spoons in your lunch box, and even get a reusable cup for your Starbucks or Dunkin!
You can find affordable reusable options at Walmart and Target, avoiding the packaging and shipping from ordering on amazon.

Wow! So many great ideas for the next 30 days. My goal for this next month I to find some plastic free options that I can take into the rest of the year and make a permanent change!
