This has been an interesting experience.  Thanks to Yes! for promoting and leading my team. Onward with renewed vigor to just say NO to plastic at personal and policy levels.

I'd like to hear about people's experience with laundry detergent "sheets".  I am getting to the end of my supply in plastic bottles and am looking for user reports on alternatives.

Years ago a friend told me about laundry magnets.  They were about $75 for the pair, sit in the washer, and break the surface tension of the water just as detergents do.  I love them!  You still have to treat stains, but I am thrilled to not have the plastic jugs, the chemical additives, the hassle and expense of laundry soaps.  My husband thinks his clothes smell, but I don't and I don't have CoVid! In the long run, they save money as well.

Started fall greens in the garden today and transplanted basil. Gardening is not a one-time thing.

This is our first summer in SE Texas, and I am hoping to plant fall greens when we get back from a trip to Lake Powell the second week of August.  Trying to grow regeneratively, so have put down paper and mulch as a ground cover.  We had been wintering here, and after putting down some mushroom compost over hugel kultur (cardboard, sticks, brush), noticed that the mustard greens were growing in the cardboard and wood chip covered paths!  So I've covered the rest of the soil in the hopes the microbial life in the soil will be happy by the time we get back!

Gardening isn't a one time thing for me. I just started a supplementary basil patch for pesto later on.

Planting seeds is not a one-time action for me.  I recently started a supplementary basil patch for pesto.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Minimize Packaging
With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

I have chosen to shop in stores that offer more choices unpackaged.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Make My Own
How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

We like starting with ingredients and ending with dishes/meals.  I was uncharacteristically in an up-scale market where there were lots of prepared/processed offerings.  Looking in people's carts was somewhat seductive.  But didn't change any of my purchase choices. Found both lemons & limes on great sale.  Will freeze cubes of each.

Three people with whom I shared this challenge have checked in to see how it's going.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Plant a Garden
Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

Delight in flowers on plants and picking off pests (cabbage worms & potato & japanese beetles).

How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

Friday I carried 1/2 a sandwich hope wrapped in a paper napkin after refusing the styrofoam clamshell to-go container.

I was with two people.  One was very supportive.  The other looked askance.

I now have some plastic containers I had previously gotten stashed in both my and my husband's vehicles.  Now, to remember to take them in with me . . . !
