I'm enjoying this ecochallenge and it is just that-a challenge! Finding alternative packaging isn't always easy and sometimes not a choice. I'm single and live alone so buying in bulk is not always the best way to go.  Some things I already do.  This is a plastic society and so far I have not been able to grocery shop 100% plastic free-but I get close.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I feel the packaging serves the producer.  Some either do not want to invest the cost of switching over to plastic free packaging or have not gotten enough incentive to do so. Millions of people buy name brand products and do not give packaging a second thought. If they do not care then the company probably does not.  There needs to be more communication on better packaging.

Normally, for many years now, I've tried to use as little plastic as possible. I recycle, use cloth bags when I can and just be very conscious of what I buy and the packaging it comes it. It's not always easy since we seem to be in plastic world. Trying to make a difference makes a difference.
