Reflection QuestionCommunity Sign a PetitionWhat is a plastic-related issue in your state/province?
Amber Bryant 7/29/2020 7:43 PMI signed a petition calling for global action committed to reducing single use plastics via the WWF. WWF.panda.org -
Reflection QuestionLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Amber Bryant 7/29/2020 7:38 PMI watched A Plastic Ocean- it was super eye opening and informative about the impact of single use and other plastics on our environment. The images of Fiji and Manila were unlike anything I’d ever seen, as the plastic has destroyed the natural environment and the health of the community. -
Reflection QuestionFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Amber Bryant 7/22/2020 9:38 AMThe easiest area to make the change is in produce. Pre-COVID I would bring personal reusable produce bags for my produce, but with that not being allowed, I had switched back to some plastic bags, mainly for items that were damp. This week, I didn't use any plastic bags, as I just put all of the produce together in my same reusable back at checkout and they didn't really need their own plastic bags. -
Reflection QuestionFood Make My OwnHow do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?
Amber Bryant 7/10/2020 5:27 PMWe made Kombucha at home. I found a new recipe- Raspberry, Lemon Ginger, that’s supposed to be like GT’s Trilogy flavor. It was exciting to be able to find a good recipe and make it at home! It’s great that we’ll reduce the impact of all of the inputs that go into a pre-packages product! -
Reflection QuestionFood Say No to Plastic BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Amber Bryant 7/09/2020 11:57 AMLast night when we went to the store, we put all of our vegetables in our one re-usable bag, not individual/plastic bags. This was easy since we already had the bag with us and were only getting a few/larger items. It can be challenging right now with different COVID restrictions though! -
Reflection QuestionFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Amber Bryant 7/09/2020 11:46 AMIt was a challenge to find a place to compost since it is not offered at my apartment! I found someone through Nextdoor who is willing to let me add things to her curbside Green Bin. This will divert food waste from the landfill and help us not take the trash out as often since things being added won't really smell!
