Katherine 's Actions
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 3 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Lifestyle
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Lifestyle
Reusable Face Coverings
Disposable masks are made of mixed materials and not recyclable. When possible, I will reduce my waste while protecting myself and others by wearing a reusable face covering when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging, making sure to wash them well before using them.
Food
Say No to Plastic Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

Katherine Burgueño 7/31/2020 5:21 PMJoining the challenge helped me support the work of my daughter and ZOO NEW ENGLAND. Chose the challenges because they were realistic for me to accomplish in what is one of my very busiest work months of the year. -
Katherine Burgueño 7/31/2020 4:30 AMWhere is the brilliant scientist who creates a biodegradable product that is waterproof, resilient and inexpensive as plastic? -
Katherine Burgueño 7/29/2020 5:23 AMAnother conundrum - newspapers. We have ours delivered ever day - but they are in plastic bags so they don’t fly away and stay dry in rainy days. Not quite ready to go online - particularly now when I spend 9+ hours/day on a screen - but am at least reusing those bags as much as possible and recycling what we can’t. -
Katherine Burgueño 7/29/2020 5:19 AMI am in charge of procuring ppe for my workplace - so much plastic😣. How do we stay safe but protect the world as well? -
Reflection QuestionCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Katherine Burgueño 7/11/2020 2:36 PMPicking up litter while staying socially distanced from other people walking in the same area forces me to take different routes than those I normally take. Even the simple act of walking on the other side of the streets allows me to see the neighborhood in a different way.-

Katherine Burgueño 7/10/2020 3:47 PMThe areas nearby my work and home are mostly deserted, with few people. So there is not a lot of litter any more (a good thing). But - to keep up with the challenge of picking up trash am going farther afield - good for the environment and more walking for me! -
Katherine Burgueño 7/09/2020 9:45 AMA hit summer day with too much work is the perfect time to support the local ice cream store. Forgot to bring my own spoon but I held strong and didn’t take a plastic one! Took the ice cream back to work - it’s a bit less frozen, but all the better for using cutlery I have stored at work-
Celina Burgueño 7/11/2020 2:50 PMThis is the truest dedication, very proud of you! Will have to follow your example next time I go downtown.

Reflection QuestionFood Say No to Plastic BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Katherine Burgueño 7/09/2020 9:44 AMNot accepting a plastic bag is easy because I always carry a cloth bag of some sort purchased from/in support of our local library. -
Katherine Burgueño 7/08/2020 6:17 AMStill keeping at it. Less trash in my neighborhood now😊 -
