Personal Care Pretty oh so Pretty
How can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?

I have told my friends and family that if we reduce packaging from beauty products, that is less waste than we are putting in landfills. I also had them watch some of Dr. Ann Moreno's lectures with me on landfills to see how dangerous it is and how long it takes for this plastic to decompose.  By doing this, my friends and family could tell their friends and family and inform on how bad plastic is to new people.

Do some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?

As I was researching polystyrene and polyvinyl, I did not know what they meant.  Once I did my research, I found out that all of the CDs I have contains polystyrene, and about—75% of my household items contain polystyrene and polyvinyl. I am doing more research to see what alternatives I could find.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

Yesterday I went to my local park with my younger brothers, and I picked up whatever trash I could find (do not worry, I wore gloves).  This helps me connect more to my community because if others see me doing this, they would want to do the same, and once they see how clean the area is, in my case, the park, they would want to keep it clean more often, and this could become a habit. My goal is to make it a habit for everyone just to use a trash can, and it's just as easy. I also feel like I am doing a service to my community by doing this.

    Food Make My Own
How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

I have tried to get into the habit of making my own food, which I am not a very good cook. At first, I was overwhelmed because I did not know what to do. My food either had too much seasoning, not enough seasoning, or it came out burnt. Now that I am starting to get better with this, I have noticed that I feel lighter, I have a clear head, and I do not feel tired. Now I realize that the pre-processed food I used to buy would always make me feel exhausted and kind of disgusted with myself. I feel better, and I am excited to learn new recipes every day!
