Always choose metal flashlights versus plastic ones  and consider rechargeable batteries.

Gardening tools are another place where you can choose non-plastic options -- you can buy tools that are all metal, or that are a metal implement with a wood handle, instead of a plastic handle.  I will also be sure to only buy ceramic pots instead of plastic pots for my flower pot gardening. I will also only buy glass or ceramic birdbaths, not plastic/resin.

I've been diligent about recycling for many years, but now I'm focused on buying products that are environmentally friendly so that there are almost no single-use plastics in my recycling bin. Everyone can do better; I'm trying to be a good example for my family, friends and community.

The month is almost over! This is the second year that I've participated in the Plastic Free Ecochallenge. It is so great to raise both personal and community awareness about plastics, especially single-use ones. I'm glad that companies are also joining individuals in choosing non-plastic options. Raising awareness is step one, then we all must ACT.

Thinking about DYI projects, like painting -- I will only buy paint brushes made from natural fibers with wood handles instead of nylon brushes with plastic handles. Also, I will only buy aluminum paint pans (for rollers) instead of plastic paint pans.

When shopping, I am paying close attention to packaging and am chosing non-plastic package options whenever possible. If I have to buy something packaged in plastic, I choose the bulk option versus individual portions that multiplies the plastic used.

I have put a glass carafe with fresh water and a clean drinking glasses in my guest room, removing the bottled water (in plastic bottles) previously provided.

So nice to use pyrex and corelle dishes to reheat food -- no plastic poison in my food and the dishes don't melt. I can also wash those dishes 1,000 times in the dishwasher and they will never lose their shape!

Take-out coffee places need to change their drink lids to paper and should only offer wood stir stcks instead of plastic lids and stirrers!

Had to replace my plastic shower liner. I bought a cloth liner, and am now using the old plastic liner to cover my wood pile.
