Cecilia's Actions

Naked Bins

To the extent allowable in my community, I will either line my trash cans with repurposed newspaper or paper bags, or I will not line my trash cans at all.

Estimate My Plastic Consumption and Go #PlasticNeutral

I will visit rePurpose website, complete the 3-minute plastic consumption calculator, and explore how I can reBalance my annual plastic footprint.

One-Time Action

Reusable Face Coverings

Disposable masks are made of mixed materials and not recyclable. When possible, I will reduce my waste while protecting myself and others by wearing a reusable face covering when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

It felt good to focus on small actions, accomplishing something, in this pandemic that has increased use of single use plastic  so dramatically and overwhelmingly.  The recycling crisis seems to be reaching awareness at new levels, politically and economically - there is hope!

Seeing less litter to pick up in my public garden is great, though it is of course due to fewer people coming to enjoy it. Here's   hoping they are discarding the same trash responsibly at home or elsewhere.

Did the plastic consumption calculator on the rePurpose website. Three minutes? No way, took much longer. Having to calculate things by week was especially hard. A worthwhile reflection on my habits.

Setting up the nursery for baby has inevitably brought a lot of packaging, plastic and other, into the house.  It has been a fun challenge creating my own drawer dividers and trays to stay organized.

Happy to find habits formed during last year's challenge are still in place. Of course, plenty of work still to be done.
