Reflection QuestionPersonal Care See the GreenTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Brooklyn Holton 7/29/2020 11:34 AMI just started using disposable contacts this year. Honestly, this is something I will continue to do. My vision is really limited and my eyes are sensitive so being able to keep the cleanliness and clarity on a daily basis has actually been life changing for my eyesight after a few hours and especially at night. If someone's sight and situation allows them to use non-dailies, I would strongly encourage that. I also have glasses so I use those pretty regularly too.-
Jana Fischback 7/31/2020 11:08 AMI use dailies too too Brooklyn, it's like my guilty pleasure! I feel the same way - totally necessary for me. But did you know you can keep the packaging and bring it to Vision Source on 5th st in Wenatchee and they'll send them away to be recycled! Just peel off the foil from the plastic and wherever they send them, it'll be separated there!

Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Brooklyn Holton 7/29/2020 11:32 AMI have gotten to meet and begin supporting more local businesses. There is also a fun aspect of of the bar soap in being able to create customized blends of herbs/smells. -
Reflection QuestionPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Brooklyn Holton 7/29/2020 11:31 AMI think there is a place for disposable razors such as the health or first aid response situations. For personal use, disposable razors don't have a high level of quality and that's really the only plausible reason to select one over another. -
Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Dam the FlowDisposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?
Brooklyn Holton 7/29/2020 11:29 AMThe largest consideration I have is the physical health that switching helps support; to be confident in knowing what in the product or having the opportunity to not have to subject my body to any non-natural objects. Definitely a little more expensive but single-use anything is a good habit to reduce. -
Reflection QuestionLifestyle Share My ActionsIn what ways is social media an effective tool for sharing your values?
Brooklyn Holton 7/29/2020 11:27 AMSocial media allows us to create the messaging about who we are to those around us that we know personally or through the digital world. It is great also that it allows us to connect with like-minded people, share resources and grow together in a space that in-person doesn't always allow. Being able to also create content or words that share who we are in a unique way adds value to its effectiveness. -
Brooklyn Holton 7/28/2020 11:23 AMI have been gathering lots of tomatoes from my garden! It's amazing how many resources are saved when walking to the back yard rather than driving to the store! -
Brooklyn Holton 7/27/2020 12:50 PMI was able to pick up a large bag of garbage from along my street yesterday. Approximately 1 mi or under gave more than enough to fill it. -
Reflection QuestionFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Brooklyn Holton 7/22/2020 1:15 PMI have many reusable options and so finding one that really stuck out came with leftovers. Saran wrap.. ahh! This is an area where I need to invest in some of the beeswax wraps! -
Reflection QuestionCommunity Estimate My Plastic Consumption and Go #PlasticNeutralWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Brooklyn Holton 7/22/2020 1:14 PMPlastic consumption in some areas is so unnecessary! For example, produce does not need to have any plastic associated with it. When I began to comment with friends about not using the available plastic bags and doing a great job washing at home, I realized how much of a non-thought using plastic really is right now. -
Reflection QuestionFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Brooklyn Holton 7/22/2020 1:12 PMThe biggest benefit is that easy actions are actions that get completed. Having the setup, tools and space to compost and compost easily drastically increases the likelihood of making composting a habit. This also leads to other seeing how easy it can be!
