I think more companies should start to send their clothing items in bags similar to these that are fully compostable and made from plants.

Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

Environmental justice has many, many layers.  Research shows that the easiest changes are those implemented by us or our immediate circle but the largest amounts of action come from the changes implemented by policy.  On that same note, though, we can see larger amounts of change when we begin to broaden our circles to include more diverse communities.

Another way to advocate for Environmental Justice is to recognize our own privilege and make a conscious effort to do our part(s) to create change.  Involving ourselves in open dialogue and become allies with those impacted is a great place to start.  Also, recognizing that marginalized communities (communities of color and/or of a lower SES) are the communities most largely impacted in any type of EJ issue and examining the intersectionality of the disparities is important!

Lastly, JUST USE A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE!  It's a perfect way to individualize your water habits AND make a statement.

Last night I made a zero plastic meal for dinner to complete our weekly challenge from @Jennifer Weber.  I forgot to get a picture, though.  It was waffles with strawberries and scrambled eggs.  The flour came in a paper bag, cardboard egg carton, and cardboard fruit pint (quart??) box thingy.

Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

Having the fresh herbs will decrease the amount of times we will need to go to the market to purchase.  This has also reduced the amount of plastic that comes into the house because we aren't purchasing the items at the store...herbs often come in those plastic containers.

This morning my husband and I had a conversation about the raised beds we want to put in.  We have a steep hill that doesn't hold soil well (or at all) when it rains.  I remembered a Social Studies lesson from 3rd grade where we learned about terracing mountainsides to plant crops.  Well guess what we're going to do?  My ma helped me with some plans and my husband has a game plan for crowing seedlings inside this winter so they'll be ready to plant after the final freeze and/or during the vegetable's growing season.

Herb gardens are a game changer. There are some that are cold hardy like lemon thyme that literally seasons everything well. You could also consider doing a hoop house frame/cold frame over top to extend into colder months.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

A lot of the litter I pick up comes from my own property.  I have no clue what a lot of it is or how it even gets on my hill!  There is a lot of plastic that looks like some type of toy - maybe dog toys?  When I pick up litter in the parking lot at work or at a store I feel a sense of pride.  The area looks nicer without the litter

Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

I have not seen a big change in my community yet...not that I get out a lot at the moment.  A few weeks ago my husband brought home a fountain lemonade for me from a local restaurant and the straws they have available are paper.  That is the only noticeable change I've seen so far.

I have been enjoying this challenge a LOT!  It has really made me think a bit more about my consumption in all ways.

I’m motivated to see a change in the use of plastic in my home. I have made quite a few changes to my own consumption prior to this challenge but want to see my husband make additional changes. Guess I need to get to educating!

I used glass containers instead of disposable. I also got a reusable lunch bag.

Take a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?

This is a really tough one for me.  I used to use monthly lenses but the strength of the Rx for each pair would dissipate and not be effective for me after week 2-ish of their life.  I currently use daily contacts and feel horrible about all the waste!  During  this WFH period I'm wearing my glasses more and more.
