    Food Use Reusable Containers
How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

We can take some disposables or cardboard and turn it into a creative items for kids.  My kids love drawing and creating with our boxes.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Use Reusable Utensils
How can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

With the pandemic there are a lot of situations where there was take out food.  It’s all about educating them on alternatives.
  • Reflection Question
    Lifestyle Travel Toiletries
What is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?

By using travel containers I was able to contain condense the amount of product I was taking I didn’t have to waste product or leave a full-size bottle in the destination. It also helps with spending if I’m able to take travel size bottles and a carry-on rather than checking a bag.

    Lifestyle Travel Eating
Was this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?

I think depending upon where you’re traveling whether it’s local or on a plane this is easier to do at times. I felt more prepared when it was a local travel that I had everything with me and didn’t have to rely on finding stuff when I got to my destinations.
  • Reflection Question
Lifestyle Buy Only What I Need
As you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?

I find myself adding lots of items to a list or to a cart. I let the item sit on that list and sometimes find I don’t necessarily need that item or I might find another item that fits the need better.  It helps me evaluate my choices for spending.

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

There are alot of individuals that do not understand how some of our actions impact the environment.  Alot of little things add up.  I see state governments taking small steps such as eliminating plastic bags.  It will take education to many to understand that it is tiny steps like this that can help.
  • Reflection Question
    Personal Care Lather Up
What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

    Becky Kal's avatar

I find myself not spending as much on soap and shampoos by using a refillable bottle.  It prompts my family to use the product we have in hand until we refill.
  • Reflection Question
    Family Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
Most of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

Reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse… refuse to continue contributing to things that will harm our environment.  There many r’s that can help relate to this.  Rethink-  think about it before you choose a single use plastic.

Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

Ive noticed this shift many places.  When traveling in the past years, most vacation spots i have visited encourage the use of reusable tumblers and straws. Ive brought these practices home to my family and we now have a whole collection of reusable straws.

    Family Swap the Snacks
How does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?

Swapping out snacks provides my family better and healthier options.  Instead of going for the back of preprocessed sugary snacks , they can grab a reusable container of grapes or carrots.
