Personal Care Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Even though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?

It feels terrible!  I don't use them, and knew they didn't actually break down from my time working with city utilities. It's wrong that these companies mark them as flushable.  They cause a lot of problems with infrastructure as well as to the environment.

I guess I would want to voice my concerns to these companies, and encourage the municipality to discourage flushing these disposable wipes.

learning about sustainable fashion is really interesting and something very new to me.  I have seen over the past several years companies like H&M making more sustainable clothing.

Hunting around on google again for more plastic free ideas, I found this website:   https://myplasticfreelife.com/plasticfreeguide/

My favorite tip that I hadn't heard before? When ordering pizza, say no to the little plastic “table” in the middle of the pizza box.

Going down rabbit holes on google, I saw this tip that I think will be pretty easy to make a habit:

Use matches instead of disposable plastic lighters or invest in a refillable metal lighter.

I bought a kit of these glass bottles and hand soap tablets a little while back and really like them.  The shipping refills are really cheap and come in paper packaging, too.  I bought the cleaning kit as well but have not used them yet as I'm trying to use up the plastic bottle cleaning supplies in my home first.

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

What was really surprising to me is I think my plastic consumption is crazy high in the health and wellness category - shower items, deodorant, skincare - all of it comes in plastic.  Less for food items. It was definitely eye opening.

I bought these a few months back, and I like them! No plastic bottles! They are like dryer sheets, but detergent for your laundry.

i think it gets a little overwhelming to try to take inventory of all of my single plastic uses and attempt to tackle all of it at once. I think it's important to do your best, and I found taking on one thing at a time and focusing on the little wins develops the best habits.
