Kirsten's Actions
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Pets
Try a Pet Shampoo Bar
I will replace my pet's shampoo with an eco-friendly shampoo bar.
Pets
Thrifty Pets
I will find secondhand sources for my pet's water/food dishes, collars or leashes.
Personal Care
Brusha Brusha Brusha
I will replace my plastic toothbrush with a bamboo toothbrush.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Personal Care
Just Say No
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl.
Food
Use Reusable Water Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Start Composting
I will start a compost collection at home, work, or school.
Lifestyle
Reusable Face Coverings
Disposable masks are made of mixed materials and not recyclable. When possible, I will reduce my waste while protecting myself and others by wearing a reusable face covering when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

Kirsten Meade 7/30/2020 11:45 AMI’m trying to figure out what behaviors I’ve learned from this month can be incorporated into the rest of my life. -
Kirsten Meade 7/29/2020 10:57 AMI just learned that eco friendly paper tape is a thing that exists. My friend says that she actually likes it better than plastic tape. -
Kirsten Meade 7/29/2020 10:17 AMDoes anyone have a recommendation for reusable water bottles?-
Esther Dean 7/31/2020 1:52 PMYou can get a big jug. They are so nice!

Kirsten Meade 7/20/2020 1:26 PMI think I’m going to upgrade to a metal straw soon. In the past month it’s been only paper straws, but they degrade very quickly. Even so, I still think they would be a good substitute plastic straws in restaurants. -
Kirsten Meade 7/12/2020 8:45 PMI have to say the pet shampoo bar was rather disappointing for me. My dog has very long, thick fur and the bar didn’t work out well at all. However, I’m sure it would be just fine for a dog with shorter fur. -
Kirsten Meade 7/08/2020 1:28 PMI must say while it was weird initially to switch to solid bars of shampoo and conditioner, I much prefer them to the bottled alternatives. -
Reflection QuestionPets All Natural Pet ToysIn what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?
Kirsten Meade 7/08/2020 12:59 PMThe cotton ropes I get him now seem to be a lot gentler on his teeth and now I don’t have to worry about him choking on some random piece of plastic. -
Reflection QuestionPets Try a Pet Shampoo BarIn what ways does your pet make your life happier, more interesting, or more rewarding?
Kirsten Meade 7/08/2020 12:57 PMMy dog is a wonderful companion and I’m really happy to just spend time with him. -
Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Just Say NoDo some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?
Kirsten Meade 7/08/2020 12:53 PMA rather unfortunate amount of things in my house contain polystyrene. Surprisingly less things had polyvinyl, but still a lot. -
Reflection QuestionFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Kirsten Meade 7/08/2020 11:07 AMPretty much everyone at my high school either doesn’t use straws or they keep metal straws.
