I have reused the same containers for years when traveling with toiletries.  Makes it easy to recognize and use.  Shared with my family that was traveling with me and commented on my "home" items.

I talked to my husband about simply ways we could change habits to become more plastic free. Packing our food for work is where we made the most changes!
  • Reflection Question
    Food Skip the Straw
Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

I have not noticed a significant shift.  For those of us that use reusable straws, it is a no brainer and we are loyal to the habit.  For others, I think that they need to reflect on how they can impact our community by eliminating plastic.  Straws are so easy since you can still drink out of a cup without them.

I have not noticed a change in my community but when traveling I have noticed significant changes! I personally try to use a reusable straw or go without!
  • Reflection Question
    Food Use Reusable Utensils
How can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

We tend to frequent local restaurants that use stainless steel silverware.  When taking out from restaurants that offer disposable utensils, I decline and just use my own at home.
  • Reflection Question
Food Use a Reusable Mug / Collapsible Cup
Since the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?

Since working from home it has been a norm to have a reusable cup along with a stainless steel straw.  I had this same habit when I worked in the office and will continue to do so when I return.

Almost at the end of the challenge.  Reflecting on the items that I am doing to eliminate plastic has been impactful.  I have been sharing these items with family and friends for them to think about going plastic free.

Back from vacation and focused on being plastic free.  Continuing to challenge myself to eliminate / minimize use of plastic at home and when out in the community mainly while eating and drinking.

Ecochallenge is going well.  I continue to make sure that I focus on minimizing use of plastic.  I am making sure that I use non-plastic items (reusable cups, reusable straws, reusable utensils).

This has been a very interesting challenge.  I do think of myself socially conscious and aware however, this has heightened my sensitivity toward the proliferation of plastic items throughout our every day life.  We all need to work together to minimize / eliminate the use of plastic.  Every effort is a win for us, the generations to come, and planet Earth.
