Just Say No

I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl.

Prevent Recycling Contamination

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Pets

Homemade Pet Food

I will prepare my own pet food to avoid plastic packaging.

Buy Unpackaged Produce

I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging, making sure to wash them well before using them.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Community

Say No to Styrofoam

Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.

DIY Cat Litter

I will swap out my cat's litter for sawdust, mulch, or dirt with baking soda.

I will either line my trash cans with repurposed newspaper or paper bags, or I will not line my trash cans at all.

Complete a Waste Audit

I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.

Switch to Loose Leaf Tea

Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.

So we are at the end of our lockdown and my kids need some more clothes, they are bean shoots and strung up. So I am off to find some warmer clothes from the second hand shop. Giving those clothes a second life.

So I tried to post mushroom photos, it didn't seem to like that. I'll try again

Delish! Probably not cost effective unfortunately. They sell for $40 a kg and I got 110gm. The box was $35. So.....I enjoyed the process but it isn't cost effective

Is drinking vodka from a litre bottle better for the environment? I think so.

Im really frustrated with places not taking keep cups anymore. I want the good coffee AND to not have another single use cup on my conscious. I'm weak. I still buy the coffee, but I'm annoyed about it.

Yeah absolutely because of Covid. With all there protective gear anyway, it doesn't make sense to just exclude keep cups. They take and give back cash, I'd think that seems more risky. I hope they start taking them again soon. I've been better with making my own at home but god, nothing beats a good, hot, fresh, coffee.

      Hi Chantelle,

It is similar in the US.  I'm wondering if places are not refilling reusable cups right now is due to the pandemic?  And, hopefully in the future we can return to this practice as I agree it is so annoying and frustrating.

Found out there is a fabric recycling drop spot at H&M. It is a little bit of a drive away but I'm making a pile of clothes I can't pass on so that they can be recycled correctly and not fo to landfill.
