I can't believe July is almost over!

Fun Fact: Since 1988, SCZ have been participating in the Guam Rail SSP, which is a part of the larger Ko’ko’ (Chamorro name for the Guam rail) recovery story. All of the birds in AZA zoos have always been and will remain in the ownership of the people of Guam. We are simply housing them in our care to better increase the odds of being able to breed, reintroduce, and conserve the species. The captive population of Guam Rails is divided between AZA zoos, and a breeding facility on Guam. The wild population now lives on Cocos and Rota, 2 islands next to Guam. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to completely eradicate the Brown Tree snake from Guam, which means that the rails and other bird species, would not be safe there.

Fun Fact: SCZ has housed Guam rails since 1988. However, guests here didn’t get their first look at a Guam rail on exhibit until 2015 when the Tropics was renovated and an ambassador Guam rail exhibit was constructed. As you know, Toru was raised specifically to act as an ambassador to the public to tell the story of his species. Prior to that, our birds were housed off-exhibit, including our previous ambassador, Pulan. Our Guam rail breeding facility continues (and will continue) to be off-exhibit since the birds are so secretive.

Normally we go to the grocery store with reusable bags. I was thinking about using the store pickup but don't they give you a ton of plastic bags? Has anyone found a work around?

Team Mexican Wolf has us by about 50 points. Checking in daily receives the most points. You can also earn points by inviting everyone you know to join, complete actions for previous days, and posting about your  experience. Keep up the hard work!

I am thrilled Plastic Free July is still on! Especially now when we are faced with so many single-use products to stay healthy. This challenge will hopefully inspire us to find other ways to limit our plastic.
