Went golfing today. Did my best to clean up the course as I went but it’s amazing how lazy and pathetic some people are. They have trash cans at every hole and there is still trash all over the course. Sad!

Food Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

So I’m starting the process, and trying to get my wife on board who loves the savings ,but I’ve noticed it’s a little more expensive to be plastic free. Meat from butcher shop is more expensive than packaged meats. We stopped using the plastic produce bags but so much good stuff comes prepackaged In plastic. It’s hard. We bring bags to put produce in and try to try to more conscious of what we buy.

Big shoutout to papa Ginos. We got a couple subs and a pizza and there was almost no plastic. Just the thin layer under the pizza between the box. But the subs were wrapped in paper and put in a paper bag not plastic. Respect big papa!

If people keep polluting and disrespecting Mother Nature she is going to get angry. And we won’t like it when she’s angry! We are seeing some affects now with the increased wildfires and heat wave in the the west, Stronger hurricanes , more tornados and the raised water levels around the world causing deadly flooding. Let’s all try to make mama happy ! Reduce Reuse Recycle
  • Reflection Question
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

The plastic makes people feel safe that their food is protected. Safe from people touching it or falling on the floor. People also see a brand name on something and they trust that more than the unknown. Big business always wins , unfortunately!

I was spreading the good word about plastic reduction and somebody told me there is also a glass shortage  and issues we could face soon. Something to think about. We need another alternative.

There is actually a shortage of some plastics right now too! During the early months of the pandemic, almost everything shut down, or was at least interrupted. I've had trouble ordering all kinds of things for the zoos, including glass, plastic and food items, all related to the pandemic. I expect it will take time, but most industries will catch up.

In what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?

I was a little surprised to see waste sites in Dover and Needham. I originally thought they would be in low income communities. There were a few on the water which I was surprised about because if there is an issue all that waste could run into the water. Big problem for everyone!

It was cool to see HP commercial during olympics about plastic in the ocean and encouraging everyone to do their part. I like that!
