Cari's Actions

Food

Reuse Plastic Containers for seed starting in my garden

When I do end up with plastic containers (from yogurt, eggs, a cold drink on a road trip when my reusable cup is forgotten or too dirty to use) I am using these over and over again to start seeds indoors before transplanting them in my garden.

We've been buying our laundry, dish, and hand soaps as well as shaving, shampoo and conditioner bars from Grove Collaborative for a couple of years now. It took a little getting used to, but now it would feel totally weird to buy those products in plastic bottles! My biggest concern is all of the take out containers from restaurants due to the pandemic. We have to keep promoting alternatives to plastic in our daily lives, and keep asking our elected officials at all levels to implement legislation that eliminates single use plastics at the source! Thank you for shining the spotlight on this critical issue  :-)

While I firmly believe that the responsibility to reduce the amount of single use plastics on our planet lies with the manufacturers and retailers, I also recognize that I am empowered to reduce them in my daily life and that can have an impact. Consistent actions and activism are needed if we want to be proper stewards of our planet; it will take all of us working together toward the goal of reducing  the negative impacts of humans on our planet. I am here for this!!

This is great, and I am happy to participate. I would also love to see action at the manufacturing and retail level. For too long now the burden has been on the consumer to find solutions to the problems created by excessive amounts of single use plastics in our environment. I hope this effort raises awareness and prompts solutions from the folks who can make the biggest impact - the companies making and selling  single use plastics.
