  • Reflection Question
Personal Care Back in the Bowl
Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

people do not see how us being wasteful impacts animals, places and people.  this has been an eye opening activity for lack of a better term.  My family and I are trying to make a smaller carbon foot print by recycling more and using less.

What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

it is less expensive in the long run to refill bottles than to purchase new bottles.  And it is just nicer to know you have extra and don't have to run out to the store when you run out of product

How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

using reusable zip lock type baggies, that are designed to be reused, they are a bit funky but once you get use to them, they are so cool, you can microwave them.

we have visited some shops that use paper straws, we tend to visit those places more
  • Reflection Question
    Food Use Reusable Water Bottles
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

I do not user bottled water... I use a pitcher with a filter, so we fill it up on a regular basis.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Use Reusable Utensils
How can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

stop asking for plastic ware, and ask them to stop offering it.

Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
