    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I saved two peppers from plastic packaging! I could have paid less for the plastic engulfed peppers, but I was like, "Not today, Food City!" I love feeling like these tiny things make a difference!

I wish they wouldn't put their 5 for $6.99 in all that plastic! I would buy their almost expired or ugly fruit and vegetables if they left them out of it. :D

How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

The most difficult part of not using plastic bags is trying to remember to take my reusable bags to the store! I will sit them on the counter then walk right by them. Then I end up carrying all my stuff in my arms out of the store!

Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

Saving straws form the landfill isn't as hard as I thought it would be. When we leave we take our reusable straws with us and just refuse plastic straws. We visited this place over the weekend called Earthling Coffee + Expresso in Asheville, NC. They had compostable straws which really excited me!

That's awesome Shannan! I've seen recently compostable straws made out of sugar cane. You know I had to make the joke a
bout if it made the drinks sweeter lol.

The challenge is going well so far. I forgot to check in a couple of days, but I'm going to be on top of things from now on. I have gotten weird looks when I pick up trash, but I'm hoping that it will catch on and become the next trend!

What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

The economic benefits of switching to bar soaps/shampoos/conditioners are amazing. We are reducing our consumption of single use plastics. I've also realized that my prejudices against bar soaps were unfounded--i actually like them!

Fahrenheit 11/9 by Michael Moore. I learned that the Flint, MI water crisis is being overlooked by our current White House administration as well as the last President. The lead levels in the citizens there are astronomical; and all the people in power are turning a blind eye to this crisis.

Single use plastics are my main concern; it's crazy how much we use them and don't even think of it. My family says no to straws and we do try to eliminate our single use plastics. We don't buy bottles of water anymore, we have reusable straws, and we try to take our own water bottles everywhere.

Picking up litter makes me feel like I'm doing a very small part in keeping my community beautiful. I hope that others follow my lead!
