Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.

Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.

I will make my own cleaning products or choose plastic-free, refillable options.
Bathroom
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me.

Become a Recycling Pro
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Family + Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchen Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Pamela Spyrs 7/31/2023 12:17 PMI haven’t flown on a plane in a couple of years so my travels have been mostly road trips. It’s been easy to pack plastic-free because of the options I have to store things. I use reusable bags (mostly comprised of sustainable materials). It’s a lifestyle change and it’s easy to do once becomes a part of life. And the positive is that nothing gets left behind except our footprints. 👣 -

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchen Clean Plate ClubHow easy was this swap for you? Did you have any concerns before making it?
Pamela Spyrs 7/31/2023 12:09 PMIt was easy peasy for me! Portion size is crucial. Don’t put more on your plate than you can handle (this goes for life happening as well)! 🍽️ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Learn about Environmental JusticeWhat did you and your family learn about environmental justice? What questions came up for you? What feelings?
Pamela Spyrs 7/31/2023 12:05 PMAs it’s defined; environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. In a world of peace and kindness this would be ideal however, the reality of we have a lot of work to do to get here. Social impact and representation remains my passion work and I will continue to work towards a better tomorrow for all. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + Pets Discover TogetherWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Pamela Spyrs 7/31/2023 10:31 AMThe planet continues to get hotter which has a direct effect on the increased wildfires happening worldwide. Climate change affects wildfires by exacerbating the hot, dry conditions that help these fires catch and spread. In my research I found; as global temperatures rise, the size, frequency and severity of wildfires is excepted to increase in the years ahead. 🔥Here’s a photo of a current wildfire in my homeland, Greece. It’s on the island of Rhodes. Heartbreaking😢-
