Francesca's Actions
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 10 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Lifestyle
Support a Sharing Economy
I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Lifestyle
Reusable Face Coverings
Disposable masks are made of mixed materials and not recyclable. When possible, I will reduce my waste while protecting myself and others by wearing a reusable face covering when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Food
Start Composting
I will start a compost collection at home, work, or school.

Reflection QuestionLifestyle Reusable Face CoveringsIn what other ways can you use creativity or innovation to reduce your waste while adapting to our current times?
Francesca Vinciguerra 7/14/2020 8:08 AMSupport businesses that are using their products for good the good of the environment and safety from COVID 19. Rothy's is a shoe and accessory line that uses reusable materials, and now they are selling masks. They are great! I love to support businesses like Rothy's and I am very happy with their mask. -
Reflection QuestionLifestyle Support a Sharing EconomyWhat are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Francesca Vinciguerra 7/10/2020 7:20 AMMy neighbors needed some baking ingredients this week and I was more than willing to give them what they need - since I do not use my flour/sugar fast enough. This avoids 2 things: my food expiring and wasting, and my neighbors do not need to waste the packaging buying baking ingredients for 1 recipe. -
Reflection QuestionFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Francesca Vinciguerra 7/07/2020 6:50 AMWhen I prepare dinner, I keep a 'scrap bowl' next to me to collect food waste. Super easy. Then I take it outside to a compost bin in the yard. Since this food waste is not in the trash, my kitchen smells better and there are less flies! It is a win-win!
