Dylan's Actions

Food

Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal

I will prepare 3 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.

COMPLETED 16
DAILY ACTIONS

Lifestyle

Reusable Face Coverings

Disposable masks are made of mixed materials and not recyclable. When possible, I will reduce my waste while protecting myself and others by wearing a reusable face covering when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Personal Care

That Was a Close Shave

I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?

Completed
One-Time Action

Community

Keep My Community Clean

I will pick up 1 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Use Reusable Water Bottles

I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

COMPLETED 8

Use Reusable Containers

I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

It's annoying how i can only say i picked up 100 peices of litter in a day. Because the day before I went to my dad's house i picked up 305 peices of trash but i didn't know it was that much till yesterday. Anyways I'm kind of going to miss this. If you ever pass by sandy or speckles feel free to wave hi!

At this point I've kinda run out of things to say so today I'll just leave it at boooo plastic.

Oh, and also thanks for the comments about the mtn dew I really appreciate it!

Personally the thing that sucks the most about refusing to use single use plastic is that I can't have Mtn. Dew Baja Blast from taco bell because their cups are plastic.

You know there are praises abound for my mom but my little brother on the other hand. Well, let's just say he doesn't get any praise and leave it at that.

I just want to take a moment and give a shout out to my mom. I'm sure it's not easy to live with me when it comes to plastic yet she's been trying her hardest and doing her best to stop using single use plastic despite the uh, "problems" it generated in our household. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for everything you do in regards to not just not using plastic but for everything you do in and out of the aquarium!

Here's an update on the muffin tragedy. So my dad decided to put one of the containers of muffins in a big plastic box-tote thing in his hot office that he instructed me to keep shut when I'm not in there. So one day I'm in the box grabbing three mtn dew to put in the fridge and I notice that all 4 muffins in the container are furry despite the fact that the muffins were unopened (aka they were moldy). So long story short a whole container of muffins got moldy I had to throw them all away and I was upset because that was just a waste food that was in single use plastic that I didn't even want in the first place.

It's ok Dylan! Try not to sweat the small stuff. Hopefully things will work out more favorably next time around:)

Hey Dylan, it sounds like a good lesson learned and thanks for sharing the story. Hopefully Dad will skip the plastic wrapped muffins next time! Keep up the good work for The Order of The Sea Turtles and beyond!

So I'm watching my dad's dog right and he asked me what I wanted for breakfast while I was over there. So I tried to keep it as plastic free as possible so I asked for cereal but then he got me 2 packages of muffins that were in these single use plastic containers as well as the cereal and in my head when I found that out in my head I was like I was like "Noooooooo" because I had asked for the cereal specifically so he wouldn't get me the muffins. So needless to say I was very sad.

After picking up a bunch of litter today I can officially say you'd be surprised at some of the stuff you find laying around. For example I found 3 banged up records just laying there on the ground.

Personal Care That Was a Close Shave
What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

I can't really answer the first part of this question because im not sure what an economic and social impact would even look like. As far as the second part goes I'd say at this point disposable razors are probably just a way for razor companies to make more money.

For me every month is plastic free July much to my family's dismay.
