Went to the store to pick some material and when the lady asked if I wanted in a bag I said no thanks I can carry it out to the car and put it in my recycle bag :) It seems like more and more people are becoming aware.

    • That's great! I always thank people when they ask me before they just put my stuff in a bag. I hope thanking them for asking reinforces that behavior for them, as well! :)

Community Estimate My Plastic Consumption and Go #PlasticNeutral
What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

    Lisa Wallis 7/23/2020 7:33 AM
Wow I didn't realize it costs so much to clean up MY garbage. I will try to do better.

So eye-opening, right?? I've been learning a lot this month too.

  • Lisa Wallis 7/22/2020 2:30 PM
Well this is harder than I thought. Failing miserably... but the good news is I am more conscious of what I pick up. I don't buy much meat anymore but that's prepackaged. I don't want to lay my fruits and veggies on the counter at the store to be weighed without something under it.  Hmmm... maybe I'll take a piece of cloth and put it down at the self checkout and then put it my cloth bag. I'll let you know how it goes.

help someone- I found a recipe for homemade bath soap that only had a few ingredients in it and I don't recall seeing lye in there. Can it be reposted because the only one on there now is for shampoo?

    • Jen Weber 7/22/2020 5:21 PM
Sounds like you're doing great, Lisa! :)

I have been recycling for about a year and I know that's only a small part of what needs to be done. I want to challenge myself to change other habits to leave less of a footprint for a better place. I have made some homemade soap and would like to learn more about making toothpaste, cleaners that are environmentally friendly and things like this.

Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

    Lisa Wallis 7/13/2020 5:39 AM
I made strawberry chicken salad for 4. It has roasted chicken, strawberries, pecans, red onions, feta cheese and fresh spinach with an orange vinaigrette dressing. YUM!!

Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

    Lisa Wallis 7/06/2020 12:37 PM
I'm going today to get ingredients to make my own toothpaste- it can't get any easier than 3 ingredients. :)

Minimalism-I learned we don't need as much as we think we do. I just moved and got rid of some stuff before I moved and found out I need to get rid of even more. LOL
