Wow!  What a challenge it has been these last two weeks.  While I started off so well, I feel I fell short with my check-ins at the finish.  I am so aware of plastic--I see it everywhere.  Taking the time to check-in is not time-consuming, I have just been consumed with grading student work, presenting information to the CETTA Team, and focusing on student success. This is not an excuse, just my reality.

Knowing is burdensome, Lisa, which I think is why so many people choose to ignore what they see and not REALLY see. Knowing is a big part of the battle, and you know. You are doing a good job.

Ashley Wales did such a fantastic job presenting a Plastic-Free webinar today.  I am so proud of my former student and current teammate.  She is such an inspiration to so many.

I FINALLY made the lotion bar! It was a little nerve-wracking, not made something like this before! But it's such a nice end product!!!

Me, too, I am awed that Ashley had the courage to get up there and share the incredible information she's learned working in the natural skin care industry. I can't wait to make lotion bars and share them. My mom uses lotion and I've already told her that she doesn't need to buy any more junky lotions that come in plastic bottles :)

Last week I spent so much time working on my Travel Plastic-Free Webinar that I did not check in every day.  I apologize to my team.

I am excited about my Travel Plastic-Free Tips Webinar tomorrow!  I traveled over the weekend and documented some of the ways we all can travel more mindfully.

I watched a webinar yesterday about plastic-free gardening.  While I do not have a yard, I learned some great tips about repurposing pots and soil to plant herbs and vegetables on my deck or front porch.  I am committed to planting bulbs as well to avoid the use of plastic containers when buying flowers.

Does anyone have any thoughts about plastic-free options for sunscreen?

I forgot to mention that we used a "bano Maria" to warm the oils, basically a double boiler process.

I attended a workshop last year to learn to make 40SPF sunblock (and other cool stuff). It was easier than I would have thought! I'd be glad to share the recipe we used (translated from Spanish): 50g cocoa butter, 20g beeswax, 20g coconut oil, 20g sesame or avocado oil, 6 to 10 drops lavender essential oil, 40 gzinc oxide, 1% vit E (optional). The zinc oxide is important as a physical sun block -- it gets added slowly, last, and mixes in pretty easily.

Lisa I have heard of this but I haven't tried it. My friend in Hawaii uses it http://avasol.com/

One of the reasons I joined the challenge is because I used to live near a turtle hospital.  I visited often and saw first hand the damage plastic has on the turtle population.  It is really careless acts that can easily be avoided. I just want to make people aware of their actions.

I am working on my Travel Plastic-Free Webinar, so I went to the store today and took pictures of snack ideas that do not come in plastic packaging.  Here is a great snack idea for home or travel.

I love picking up garbage, especially plastic when I am traveling.  Stay tuned for a few tips to see how you can not only reuse when you travel but also remove!
