Alex's Actions

Lifestyle

Reusable Face Coverings

Disposable masks are made of mixed materials and not recyclable. When possible, I will reduce my waste while protecting myself and others by wearing a reusable face covering when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

  • Reflection Question
Personal Care That Was a Close Shave
What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

    Alex Weeks 7/06/2020 11:14 PM
Switching to steel razors has honestly been easier than disposables ones. There was no need for disposable one. They were only made to sell more razors and make more money, due to the current economic system, which encourages greed and individualism. This is a problem with a lot of things, but I'm not going to go into detail.
  • Reflection Question
    Pets Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
How are caring for your pet and caring for the environment connected for you?

    Alex Weeks 7/06/2020 11:11 PM
The way you care for your pet effects the environment, such as the shampoo you buy and if you use plastic bags to pick up waste.
  • Reflection Question
    Community Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

    Alex Weeks 7/01/2020 2:15 PM
It helps me meet new people as I'm out on the levee picking up trash. It's also a great way to get outdoors!

Hey everyone! I'm so excited to start this challenge. It was great last year, and I'm sure it's going to be even better this year!
  • Reflection Question
    Lifestyle Share My Actions
In what ways is social media an effective tool for sharing your values?

    Alex Weeks 7/01/2020 1:52 PM
It's a great tool! I have so many people on my snap, insta, etc. that I can get a good amount of people to go plastic free this July.
  • Reflection Question
    Lifestyle Naked Bins
Does changing the lining of your waste bin change the kind or amount of trash you produce?

    Alex Weeks 7/01/2020 1:47 PM
Removing the lining from my trash doesn't necessarily change my amount or type of trash, but it's infinitely more easier to not put one in, so why wouldn't you!
  • Reflection Question
Food Say No to Plastic Bags
How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

    Alex Weeks 7/01/2020 9:10 AM
As I normally buy small amounts of things, it's easy to not use plastic bags, but when I'm grocery shopping, we buy a large quantity of things. I am try to get reusable bags for my family to use.
