This has been a good challenge. I feel like I've learned a lot and yet there's still much to learn. I've made a good start with becoming more aware of the impact of what I buy and use.

Am happiest that I learned about CompostNow.org.

Closing this month and challenge, I reflect on how much I’ve more aware I’ve been on how much plastic I use on a day to day basis. I no longer use much plastic kitchen utensils but I do feel bad every time restaurants give them to me. It’s made me want to research what I can do with it besides just throwing them away.

The more I pay attention to what I'm buying, the more I realize how plastic is dominating our grocery stores. Vegetables that used to be unpacked are now wrapped in plastic (in some cases individually wrapped!). Another reason for me to visit the farmers market where I can buy fruit and vegetables without the wrappings.

I have switched over to toothpaste tablets in a glass jar, mouthwash tablets in a glass jar, and biodegradable floss in a glass jar. I definitely intend to stick with this change among a number of others I had previously made.

They are mostly on the east or south side of town which is traditionally the poorest and/or most rural. As our city continues to expand out into those areas it will be interesting to see what happens.
