This month has been pretty great in terms of learning new things about plastic and why it isn't so great for us.  I mean, just because something is 'convenient' doesn't mean it's good for us.  Sort of like just because something is legal doesn't make it right.
I can't change the world.  But I can change how I live in it.  And maybe, possibly, perhaps, I can influence others by how I live.

No longer putting produce in plastic bags is a new habit! Now taking a reusable bag into the store specifically for produce.

I've had so much fun this month sharing my journey on social media, creating new sustainable habits, and looking for ways to reduce my waste. I think I'm most proud of starting to compost! I'm excited to be removing so much food waste and even some carboard from landfills.

Using reusable metal water bottles has been so easy. I'm drinking more water now and I feel good.

There are so many items that use plastic in our lives. A little change daily or even monthly can make a huge impact on repurposing our plastic consumption.

Plastics are a huge problem for our environment and for both humans and animal life but if we use it responsibly we can reduce our carbon footprint.

TASK: Choose only plastics that are made of recyclable plastics and try to lessen your consumption of plastics overall.

I'm enjoying this ecochallenge and it is just that-a challenge! Finding alternative packaging isn't always easy and sometimes not a choice. I'm single and live alone so buying in bulk is not always the best way to go.  Some things I already do.  This is a plastic society and so far I have not been able to grocery shop 100% plastic free-but I get close.

    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I feel the packaging serves the producer.  Some either do not want to invest the cost of switching over to plastic free packaging or have not gotten enough incentive to do so. Millions of people buy name brand products and do not give packaging a second thought. If they do not care then the company probably does not.  There needs to be more communication on better packaging.

It's been a great month! I have had a fun time each and every single day putting a post on my instagram sharing what I've been doing around my house to go plastic-free. I have had a few people reach out saying that they are inspired and want to start doing what I'm doing too!

Here's a testimonial for you: I'm 66 years old, I can't see well without my glasses, and I shave in the shower.  I used a traditional, non-disposable razor yesterday for the first time in ... decades.  A great, close shave and not a single nick or cut.  I highly recommend it!
