I wanted to cut down on waste going to the landfills and also wanted to stop buying things I don't need. Participating in this challenge made me think much more about each item I purchase and why. Thank you for the invitation and the opportunity to share in this challenge.

In what other ways can you use creativity or innovation to reduce your waste while adapting to our current times?

As I have been doing litter clean-ups throughout the month, I have really come to appreciate how much using reusable/ washable face covering benefit the environment. Sadly, I have picked up a lot of disposable face masks and also disposable gloves. It's gross to pick up other people's trash, but it is even more gross to think about that ending up in the rivers and oceans or hurting wild birds and animals. If you do use a disposable masks or gloves, please be sure to properly throw it away in a trash bag that can be tied and thrown in a dumspter.

If the environment and the community are healthy it keeps my family healthy. But it is up to me to help keep the community and the environment healthy.

I've been bagging at the car. I've been paying more attention to packaging and choosing less plastic.

I called my Senators and Representative today to urge them to support the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2020 (Senate Bill 3263, HR 5845). This bill would shift responsibility for waste management and recycling to manufacturers and producers (instead of consumers), set up a national beverage container refund, establish minimum recycled content standard and phase out certain single-use plastic products that are not recyclable. Additionally, the act would stop plastic waste exports.

My new goal is to get to 1000 pieces of litter before the end of July. Now that it's in writing, it's official. :)
