Go For a Walk

Science has shown that focused time in nature calms our over-worked frontal lobe and gives space for the areas of our brain associated with emotions, pleasure, and empathy to take over, providing a sense of calm that is measurable in brain scans and even blood tests. Each day this month, I will spend 30 minutes outside in nature, and share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the Participant Feed.

Print in Draft Mode

To extend the life of my ink cartridges, I will set my printer default to draft mode to use less ink or toner per print job.

Take the pre-survey!

Help us make the Plastic Free Ecochallenge the best it can be! Take the challenge pre-survey (and look out for the post-survey at the end of the challenge!) so we can better understand the impact the challenge has and how we can improve in the future. Plus, you'll earn points for completing it! Thank you!

I will record a 15-20 second video sharing why I am taking action for the planet.

Fill a Water Bottle

Bottled water corporations make plastic bottles, not water. If the tap water in my area is safe for consumption, I will use a reusable bottle instead and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottles a day.

Brush with Bamboo

In the US, about 1 billion toothbrushes are thrown away each year. And because plastic is designed to last, nearly every plastic toothbrush ever created still exists. When it's time to replace my current toothbrush, I will replace it with a plastic-free bamboo option.

Going for a walk outdoor gives me a refreshed state of mind as always. Even just the mere sound of water rushing in to river stream is just like music to my ears

We've got only one planet, if we don't act now it might be too late. Severe weather patterns have been affecting all of us as evident with unuasual weather changes like the wildfires happening in the Yukon

Sitting here in Houston preparing for possible effects from a hurricane that's much stronger than most storms are this early in the season, I can empathize!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Kitchen Fill a Water Bottle
Investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

By simply stopping to buy bottled water when safe tap water is available we will be able to save the planet. Joining initiatives/petitions of the locals whose water rights have been violated would help.
