What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

    Christina Arnold 7/26/2020 1:43 PM
What really surprised me was how much more waste I produce than someone who lives in India. It's heartbreaking to know that so much of the trash has been shipped to India while they aren't even creating that much. Out of sight, out of mind for Americans.

Yes, our society is so spoiled and competitive. We must have the latest and greatest, and are so wasteful in our consumption. We don’t realize the extreme until we watch movies or read about other countries and how little they have. It is sad.

What is a plastic-related issue in your state/province?

    Christina Arnold 7/20/2020 10:37 AM
Plastic bags and the lobbying of industries that ensured local municipalities can't ban them. Luckily, we can make an individual choice to bring our own, but there definitely needs to be a bigger shift!

In what ways is social media an effective tool for sharing your values?

    Christina Arnold 7/19/2020 7:58 AM
I'm not a huge social media person, but over the past few years, I've seen how sharing my actions and living my values have impacted some of my friends. Many have told me they have had their eyes opened, or made some changes to reduce their plastic waste! I never push anyone to do anything (except maybe my mom), but making suggestions for easy switches can have a huge impact. If you're passionate about something, people will notice!

I will have to pass this on, my mom's dogs might love these treats

    • Christina Arnold 7/12/2020 9:28 AM
Not sure where my caption went, but I made homemade frozen dog treats with just 2 ingredients - broth and peanut butter! They were a huge hit, especially after a hot walk.

I made a single use plastic free (and almost no waste) dinner on accident last night! Sweet potato stuffed with black beans and topped with guacamole. All the veggie scraps went to the compost bin, and the can for the black beans went to recycling. I originally didn't think I could do a zero waste meal with limited bulk options due to COVID19, but it was great to know the lifestyle changes I've made the past few years have taken hold and that it is possible

That's awesome! Beau and I made some veggie skewers from the CSA produce we got and that ended up being plastic free! Composting has really kept a lot of stuff out of our garbage. That looks yummy!
