Sinclair's actions
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 1 piece(s) of litter each day.
Community
Research Local Waste Sites
I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Study
Plastic History Buff
Single-use plastics are everywhere, but that wasn't always the case. I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about the history of single-use plastics and how it became ubiquitous in our daily lives.
Study
Dig into Bioplastics
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching the impacts of bioplastics and how to properly dispose of them in my city, and I will share this information with 3 friends, family, and/or colleagues.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Study
Follow the Chasing Arrows
The chasing arrows symbol we associate with recycling doesn't always actually mean something is recyclable. I will spend at least 30 minutes learning the different meanings the symbol can have.
Study
Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.
Bedroom
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Bedroom
Catch Those Microfibers
I will use a microfiber catcher in my laundry, or install a microfiber filter for my washing machine.
Bathroom
Homemade or Refillable Cleaners
I will make my own cleaning products or choose plastic-free, refillable options.
Bathroom
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Kitchen
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 1 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Kitchen
Try a New Recipe
I will try new recipe(s) or food preparation method(s) each day, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.
Kitchen
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.

Sinclair Boggs 7/31/2023 1:02 PMIt's the last day of July, but I'm excited to keep up my actions beyond this month. -
Sinclair Boggs 7/28/2023 7:46 AMCan we make it to 150k team points?? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Sinclair Boggs 7/27/2023 10:47 AMI have encountered such a small amount of litter in my daily life this year, so it makes me proud of my community! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroom Green BeautyHow can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?
Sinclair Boggs 7/27/2023 10:43 AMSharing hope and success is more powerful than doom and gloom. When I find products or companies that use sustainable practices such as reduced packaging, I recommend them to others. -
Sinclair Boggs 7/26/2023 12:23 PMLess than one week to go! What actions are you looking forward to continuing past July? I was not able to try as many plastic-reducing scratch recipes as I wanted this month, so I plan to keep trying new things like making my own tortillas. -
Sinclair Boggs 7/24/2023 9:56 AMOur average points per teammate is now over 300!! Keep up the great work, Maryland Zoo team! 🏆 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchen Try a New RecipeHow do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?
Sinclair Boggs 7/21/2023 8:14 AMI love trying new recipes and getting creative in the kitchen. Time is really the limiting factor for me in making my own items from scratch instead of buying premade. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudy Follow the Chasing ArrowsRecycling right requires both systemic change and personal and community awareness. How can you expand what you've learned about the chasing arrows symbol to encourage broader changes in your community?
Sinclair Boggs 7/21/2023 8:13 AMSharing the manta "when in doubt throw it out" is, unfortunately, one of the ways to make sure the recycling that does happen has a better chance of being successful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudy Plastic History BuffHow has learning about the history of single-use plastic shifted your mindset on plastics and their function within society?
Sinclair Boggs 7/21/2023 8:11 AMWow, yes! I had no idea that plastics first came about as an alternative to natural resources - namely ivory! When plastic is purposefully created as single-use as a way to get consumers to buy and dispose of products over and over again is where the problem really lies. -
Sinclair Boggs 7/20/2023 7:07 AMI already picked up two pieces of trash from the ground today on my way into work.
