Oregon's Senate Bill SB582 (Recycling Modernization Act) passed in 2021 and required the DEQ to establish a Recycling System Advisory Council to 'create methods make plastics manufacturers more responsible for the 'recycleability' of the items they produce' - Only two states - Oregon and Maine, had enacted these laws at that time - more may have currently - This law will ensure that 1) these producers only sell material that can be responsibly and transparently recycled; 2) make money available to recycling facilities to help their cost; 3) Develop resources for education on proper recycling of their product. New items to the 'recyclable' list may include take-out containers, packaging tissue paper, polyethylene film, white expanded polysterene (See Oegon DEQ website for more info)
