I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Community
Donate Zero Waste Period Products
I will donate 6 zero waste period kits to young people with periods so that they can reduce their waste and the financial burden of menstruation while continuing their education.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Advocate for Office ReusablesWhat are some of the cases you could make to an employer for why switching to durable dishes and utensils is actually in their best interest as well?
Dominique Hunt 7/31/2023 2:10 PMOther then the obvious it saves money, it also reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills everyday. It allows durable dishes to be used to there full potential as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Host a Watch PartyHow does hosting a watch party help you to get to know your guests, connect them to the cause you are focusing on, and build your community?
Dominique Hunt 7/31/2023 2:03 PMIt did help connect then to the problem, My MIL likes to buy things and uses alot of plastics so I think the watching a documentary really helped her reflect on some things. Hopefully she'll try to reduce her usage of plastic waste. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Learn about Environmental JusticeWhat did you and your family learn about environmental justice? What questions came up for you? What feelings?
-
Dominique Hunt 7/29/2023 4:36 AMPlastic bottles are often recycled into downgraded products, like carpet and fiberfill for jackets. -RTS
-
Dominique Hunt 7/28/2023 4:14 AMThe first-ever human-made plastic was made from cellulose in 1855, so it was a bioplastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudy Dig into BioplasticsWhat did you learn about bioplastic production and disposal? Did anything surprise you? Are bioplastics accepted by your city's waste management?
Dominique Hunt 7/27/2023 7:29 PMBioplastics will naturally decompose in three to six months, but the average plastic takeaway container may take around 450 years to disintegrate. I believe OSU is working on getting more substantial plastics on campus as most places don't accept them. -
