Advocate For Better Food Packaging
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Bathroom
See the Green
An estimated 50,000lbs (23,000kg) of contact lenses end up in sewage sludge in the US each year. This month, I will learn how to recycle used contact lenses and packaging or switch to wearing glasses instead.
Study
Dig into Bioplastics
I will spend at least 15 minutes researching the impacts of bioplastics and how to properly dispose of them in my city, and I will share this information with 7 friends, family, and/or colleagues.

Take the pre-survey!
Help us make the Plastic Free Ecochallenge the best it can be! Take the challenge pre-survey (and look out for the post-survey at the end of the challenge!) so we can better understand the impact the challenge has and how we can improve in the future. Plus, you'll earn points for completing it! Thank you!
Kitchen
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Study
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Study
Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroom See the GreenTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Courtney Napier 7/08/2024 5:36 AMLonger wear contact lenses are not an option for myself and many others as they are much more likely to become dangerous to the user. I almost went blind in high school from my long-wear contact lenses cutting my cornea. All optometrists I've been to since say they don't even prescribe them anymore because of these dangers. I always wanted to be able to recycle my daily lenses but didn't know I had a drop off waste partner near me! In the past couple years I have been wearing glasses about 70% of the time and it has drastically cut down on my plastic waste. Now I can wear my contacts with less guilt knowing I can recycle them.
