Bathroom

Brush with Bamboo

In the US, about 1 billion toothbrushes are thrown away each year. And because plastic is designed to last, nearly every plastic toothbrush ever created still exists. When it's time to replace my current toothbrush, I will replace it with a plastic-free bamboo option.

Bathroom

Pearly Whites

Nearly all toothpaste tubes are made from multiple layers of different types of plastic and aluminum, making them impossible to recycle and destined for landfill. When it's time to replace my current toothpaste, I will replace it with a plastic-free option.

Take the pre-survey!

Help us make the Plastic Free Ecochallenge the best it can be! Take the challenge pre-survey (and look out for the post-survey at the end of the challenge!) so we can better understand the impact the challenge has and how we can improve in the future. Meatless Meals

There are many benefits to enjoying meatless meals - including reducing our plastic footprint. Most meats and dairy products are packaged in plastic, so this month, I will reduce my animal product consumption and enjoy 1 vegetarian or vegan meals each day.

I had so many good vegetarian meals this month I can't pick a favorite. None were lacking in flavor, I just need to learn more about making them have the best nutritional value, specifically protein. It was a great challenge!

What are some of the cases you could make to an employer for why switching to durable dishes and utensils is actually in their best interest as well?

We use a lot of wooden tongue sticks to dispense pet food from cans for no reason other than convenience. It was easy to have a conversation about using a kitchen spoon or knife for the same purpose to save on the expense to the company and resources saving a tree in the process.

I don't always have a trash bag available to pick up things, but I hope I can lead by example when I do pick up trash around my home and work communities. I know I feel better when I see cleaner streets and properties.

That is a great way to do a lot while doing a little. I do the same for my neighborhood.
