TSS Scholl
"I am passionate about the principles of recycling, reusing, and cleaning up our surroundings. It's always nice to walk, drive or bike ride through neighborhoods and it's clean. Recycling is more than a habit; it is a commitment to conserving our natural resources and reducing waste,"

Community
Keep My Community Clean
In addition to refusing and reducing my consumption of single-use plastics, I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day of the Plastic Free Ecochallenge.
Bathroom
Take the pre-survey!
Help us make the Plastic Free Ecochallenge the best it can be! Take the challenge pre-survey (and look out for the post-survey at the end of the challenge!) so we can better understand the impact the challenge has and how we can improve in the future. Plus, you'll earn points for completing it! Thank you!
Bathroom
Homemade or Refillable Cleaners
Surface cleaners, glass cleaners, floor cleaners, oven cleaners, toilet cleaners...there's a whole lot of plastic waste involved in cleaning our homes - plus ingredients that can be harmful to aquatic ecosystems and our health. This month, I will make my own cleaning products or choose plastic-free, refillable options.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
Whenever possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags. I will either use my own reusable bags, or keep my items loose.
Bathroom
Sustainable Suds
In the UK, the average person creates 512kg (1,129lbs) of waste in the bathroom over the course of their lifetime - 50% of which ends up in a landfill. As they run out, I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable options.
Community
Go For a Walk
Science has shown that focused time in nature calms our over-worked frontal lobe and gives space for the areas of our brain associated with emotions, pleasure, and empathy to take over, providing a sense of calm that is measurable in brain scans and even blood tests. Each day this month, I will spend 10 minutes outside in nature, and share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the Participant Feed.
Kitchen
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Bedroom
Multiple Wears Before Washing
The simple, necessary, daily act of washing our clothes slowly degrades the quality of our clothes due to the friction involved in the process. To extend the life of my clothes, whenever possible, I will wear items multiple times before washing.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

TSS Scholl 7/29/2024 11:09 AMWhen I create my own containers, I can design them to fit my needs. I like to use old containers, the sizes may change depending on what I'm making, or how I decorate it so we know what each container is used for. Simple art work making your own containers allows you to tailor them to your preferences. -
TSS Scholl 7/24/2024 7:15 AMParticipating in these challenges increases your awareness of environmental issues and sustainable practices.
This knowledge empowers you to make informed decisions and advocate for a more sustainable future.
This year Hubby and I enjoyed the outside reflection. It helped me to take a good look at the beauty we have around us. Our new habit is to meditate, clean up, and enjoy Gods beautiful Earth. -
TSS Scholl 7/22/2024 10:48 AMIn our community, Hubby and I like implementing strategies that lead to more people stepping up to the responsibility, encouraging ongoing participation in maintaining a clean neighborhood.
One thing our community is doing we use, recycle, and reuse, and pick up trash. It's cute and nice but some have a cane with a hook to grab trash. People who care find ways to clean up with a smile.

TSS Scholl 7/20/2024 9:38 AMHubby and I like, to Use a sink filled with water and a small amount of your favorite detergent or oils too.
This is good for delicate clothes or small clothing and hang dry out on your porch or a mud room.
I use my mud room to hang my clothes to dry, my wet clothes from the pool, I hang my ironing clothes up to get iron.
Look for space in your home to save on washing, drying, and ironing but feel clean.

TSS Scholl 7/19/2024 11:12 AMHubby and I, like to walk, sit and meditate, it is so relaxing and healthy for us, to stay focused on the beauty we desire to have.
Proper waste management prevents pollution of air, water, and soil, helping to preserve natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
A clean community gives a sense of pride and well-being among communities , promoting social positive community spirit. -
TSS Scholl 7/18/2024 10:33 AMPurchasing soap and detergent in bulk reduces packaging waste and often costs less per unit.
Many stores offer refill stations where you can bring your own containers and fill them with liquid soap, shampoo, and detergents, further cutting down on packaging.
I have not shopped at store that you fill up your cleaning supplies, I have made my own or I use essential oils.
When I make a DIY soap or massage balm, I know what's in it, that makes me feel healthy.-
Sara Paterson 7/19/2024 5:21 AMI agree, there is such piece of mind when we are able to create a cleaning product and know what is it in.

TSS Scholl 7/17/2024 9:04 AMMany eco-friendly containers are made from natural materials that do not release harmful chemicals, unlike some plastics which can leaves toxins into food and beverages.
It's so easy to use containers like these one is salad or fruit bowel, the other two are veggies, main course. Have fun picking out yours if you haven't yet.

Sara Paterson 7/17/2024 10:37 AMIt is so great to see so many alternatives now. I like bringing my food to reheat in glass containers, but they can be quite heavy.

TSS Scholl 7/17/2024 7:01 AMPlastics in our daily lives add up, to major source of environmental pollution. They take hundreds of years to decompose, leading to long-term litter in our landscapes and oceans.
Plastic is pollution that harms wildlife, marine life, and ecosystems. This is why programs like this is helping to make awareness.
This is why hubby and I are so diligently wanting to do more for our community. -
TSS Scholl 7/16/2024 10:49 AMHubby and I consistently pick Litter up, to keep our community clean.
Litter can harm wildlife and ecosystems. Trash can harbor harmful bacteria and viruses, creating health hazards.
It can also attract pests like rodents and insects, which can spread diseases.
Animals can ingest or become entangled in debris, leading to injury or death.
Trash can also pollute waterways and soil, affecting plant life and water quality.
This is the reason to keep Clean!
