I selected the ecochallenge about proper food storage and I learned a lot. I've already begun changing my practices to ensure food lasts longer and doesn't wind up spoiled and in the compost when it could have been eaten. Check out this ecochallenge - it's very informative.

On my short 15 minute walk around my neighborhood & local park today, I picked up 7 pieces of trash, of which 6 were plastic. And this is since yesterday, when I walked the same route & picked up litter.

For those plastic items that are not recyclable, and cannot be eliminated, consider a Zero Waste box from Terracycle. Check them out at: https://shop.terracycle.com/en-US

Just got an e-mail from the Public Interest Group about reducing plastic related to your 4th of July BBQ/picnic. Here are the tips:
    1. Shop sustainably for picnic/BBQ supplies (use reusable grocery bags, avoid items with excessive packaging, buy at local farmers market)
    2. Skip single use plates/cutlery/cups in favor of re-usable (you can ask people to bring their own, too)
    3. Ditch plastic straws (skip straws, or offer paper/bamboo/steel)
    4. Offer beverages that don't come in plastic bottles
    5. Choose eco-friendly decorations
