Don’t forget, you have until midnight to log!

    Study Numbers Everywhere
Were you surprised by what the different plastic identification numbers mean? How can this information help you become a better recycler?

I knew that the numbers on the bottom were an identifier, but not exactly sure in what way. After researching, I found that most plastics actually just end up in a landfill unable to be recycled.
It was nice to see that our city does accept plastics with IDs 1-7 even though most places only take #1-#2.
This can help me become a better recycler by choosing products that are more likely to be recycled rather than thrown in a landfill!

    Study Plastic History Buff
How has learning about the history of single-use plastic shifted your mindset on plastics and their function within society?

Unfortunately, I do not avoid single-use plastics as much as I should since they do make life in the moment easier. After learning about the history of single-use plastics and how our planet will look if people don’t change, my family and I have talked about being more conscious of our actions. We also plan on teaching our children to use more reusable items now so that way it will be easier for them when they are adults and start making their own decisions!

    Community Learn about Environmental Justice
What did you and your family learn about environmental justice? What questions came up for you? What feelings?

Honestly, we did not know a lot about the definition of environmental justice/ injustice and I found that it tied into what we learned when researching dumping sites. How it mostly affects people of low social standings. It made us question our waste and we dispose of it since this can contribute to the problem. It also made us look up what companies are currently causing these injustices and how we can avoid supporting them.

    Bedroom Clean the Dryer Vent
When was the last time you cleaned your dryer's air vents? Was it easier or more difficult than you anticipated?

I did not get ours cleaned this month, but it is still on my to-do list! I have honestly never cleaned my dryers vents. It always seems like such a hard task to do! After researching and watching some videos though, I think it is something that I will actually find very easy!

    Bedroom Declutter Sustainably
Compared to your previous experiences with decluttering, how was this experience with sustainable decluttering different?

    Rachel Hardwick's avatar

It made me feel more willing to rehome unwanted items instead of just "holding on to it"

    Kitchen Embrace Imperfection
How has embracing imperfection impacted your plastic-free journey?

I feel like I did more things because the idea of what I "need" to do to be ecofriendly is much more overwhelming. Discovered an easy one on accident... need less condiments in our lives... a lot of waste there over non important goods.

    Kitchen Use What You Have
Besides the economic benefits of using the things we already own, how can this practice impact our lives in other ways and influence the way we interact with "things"?

Since we have been without power overnight, I was forced to use up things in our fridge, as I was cleaning out and using things, it made me realize how much we really don't need that we get for one use (sauces mostly) and have several others we could have used instead of getting the additional sauce.
