What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

I have finally found great shampoo and conditioner bars for my hair. I have not realized before how much plastic we are using for our personal care...Also limiting hair washes to once a week helps your bars last much longer.

Check out your local Asian markets! A lot of the produce is in bulk and have different varieties. These Shiitake mushrooms and snow peas went into a brown bag! No plastic waste. :D

I purchased all the ingredients to make my own deodorant.  Recipe:
    3 Tbsp coconut oil
    3 Tbsp shea butter
1/4 cup arrowroot or organic corn starch
    1/4 cup baking soda
a few drops of essential oils (optional)
Put butter and oil in quart jar and place in pan of water until melted. REmove from heat and add baking soda and arrowroot/corn starch and a few drops of essential oils.

By far, the two main things I throw away are grocery packaging and kleenex. I haven't tackled the food packaging yet, but am trying an experiment by ordering some old-fashioned cotton handkerchiefs. So far they work just as well as kleenex and don't seem to be any less sanitary since I just toss them in the laundry when I'm done.

Went to the store to pick some material and when the lady asked if I wanted in a bag I said no thanks I can carry it out to the car and put it in my recycle bag :) It seems like more and more people are becoming aware.

    • That's great! I always thank people when they ask me before they just put my stuff in a bag. I hope thanking them for asking reinforces that behavior for them, as well! :)

Oat milk is super sustainable, delicious, and easy to make. It when makes me so happy when the aforementioned qualities coexist in harmony 😁

Having Chickens allows for a lot of different benefits. Knowing how they are treated, what they are eating...very tasty eggs for breakfast, and pest control!

    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I saved two peppers from plastic packaging! I could have paid less for the plastic engulfed peppers, but I was like, "Not today, Food City!" I love feeling like these tiny things make a difference!

I wish they wouldn't put their 5 for $6.99 in all that plastic! I would buy their almost expired or ugly fruit and vegetables if they left them out of it. :D
