Personal Care That Was a Close Shave
What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

    Sell more things 💯

Disposables are wasteful and usually not as good. No real need ever for disposable and i can’t wait to see what’s next.

Went to a restaurant today- this last day of the challenge and after having to ‘ask’ for a straw we were given a straw made out of agave?! It was incredible- hard, didn’t melt or mush like our paper ones and it was perfect. We need these at Starbucks!

Personal Care Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Even though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?

De-bunk the myth. Share the reality and inform all the moms and dads who choose reusable but really aren’t getting reusables…

This is crazy and people should know!

How can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?

    Share the ‘why.’

So many people don’t know the importance of reducing packaging… make it personal for them and make it resonate. Then you’ll have their buy in, their support and they too will support in the journey towards less packaging and reducing waste.

It has been interesting to learn how the infrastructure (or lack of) impacts how waste is handled in different areas - and the downstream impacts it causes. I think the most frustrating part is that the cost to "fix" all of the problems is higher than the cost to just change the way businesses source or manufacture products to begin with.

I watched A Plastic Ocean. I learned about the millions of pounds of plastic that flows into our oceans every hour.
I also learned that billions of people on earth rely on the ocean for their protein.
I was surprised to learn how plastic travels once in the ocean.
Sounds like there are a lot of future ideas on how to deal with the plastic we have made, but we have to stop the flow of plastic out to sea now.

    Personal Care Lather Up
What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

Economics-wise, it's actually more expensive to choose bar soaps/shampoos that are sustainably produced. I'm happy to do so because I believe that those who can afford it should try to go plastic free, but there is a long way to go toward making sure that plastic-free alternatives are attainable for those who currently cannot afford the switch.

Personally, I'm happy to have less plastics to recycle and not wasting water trying to wash them out for recycling.

By creating a ‘sharing economy’ we teach and help others in this journey to be plastic free. It’s awesome to do it together and be better for our earth.

So much waste! Even with the heightened sense of awareness around waste and reducing waste there is just so much and with our big family it is essential to try and find ways to reduce waste… as for where, in our daily items- soaps, packaging, baby essentials, washer/dryer stuff, more packaging.
