    Study Follow the Chasing Arrows

I am at the National Marine Educators Associate conference in Boston and Dr. Kat Owens is leading a session to collaborate on a life-sized portrait of marine animals impacted by plastic: Entangled and Ingested: Sewing Session. We’ve talked about recycling and materials that aren’t really made to be recycled

Awesome! Every time I see some physical display of trash - plastic - whatever, I think it helps grow awareness more readily than, for example, an essay or news story.

In honor of the Olympics starting today, I want to give a shout-out to Paris for being the most eco-friendly Olympics on record. It's been very cool to see how, in the last 10 years, each new Olympic game has been becoming more and more eco-friendly. Japan 2020 and Vancouver 2010 set new bars, and now Paris 2024 has raised the standard even higher. :)

How difficult was this action for you? Is this something you'll be continuing after this challenge ends?

I def have learned a lot about different ways I can use my scraps. I think my favorite one so far has been turning carrot greens into homemade pesto. It was surprisingly easy. Afterwards not only did I have a delicious sauce, but I with how easy it was, I wanted to continue exploring more ideas and options.

I love making a veggie frittata with whatever's left in the fridge at the end of the week. Then I will cut it up, wrap them in tortillas and freeze some for breakfast burritos later in the week!

    Study Greenwashing Pro
As you were learning about greenwashing, were there any companies you previously supported that you now think might be greenwashing us? How can you tell?

I learned that there are no regulations for something to be labeled "biodegradable". It can biodegrade in any amount of time (1 to 400+ years) but "compostable" must be able to break down in an industrial compost facility. One company that can be trusted to certify compostability is BPI.

    Bedroom Declutter Sustainably
Compared to your previous experiences with decluttering, how was this experience with sustainable decluttering different?

    Sonia Ahrabi 7/24/2024 9:24 AM
To help me declutter sustainably I am hosting a clothing swap at my work so that others can bring their items and hopefully everyone can go home with something they will use. We have also scheduled a pickup with a local organization so that any remaining items can go find a new home too.

    Community Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

It always amazes me how much trash can be left behind after a day at the beach or park. I hope that continued community events to clean up public spaces will encourage people to properly dispose of their trash.
