I have been using my own bags for years! I gifted some to my Dad recently and really try to get friends and family to make the change. Personally, I think the flat bottomed bags I use are easier to load, carry, and I can keep them in my car all of the time for the grocery store and for when I go to estate and garage sales. If I don't have one,...

I feel like I have been a little lax this week, Just want to remind everyone to do their check ins and keep up the good work!

One of the really cool things here at the Sedgwick county Zoo is our Green Team. We give "Green Grants" out to departments that submit a request for an item that falls under our renew, reuse recycle green guidelines.Yesterday we approved the purchase of a Hydroponic garden system for our preschool so that our students can grow their...

Annually, 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. Each bag has an average "working life" of 15 minutes. Over the last 10 years we have produced more plastic waste the during the entire century before that. Today, I spent some time visiting our Guam Kingfisher. I find it apropos that he is solitary here at our zoo. It is a daily reminder of how close we were to losing this species completely

A huge part of my “whole meals” started when I got my dog Mac and decided to make her own food. Dry kibble that is proceeded with so much stuff is not something that I want for myself or her

Well, here we are at the end of week 2. Please remember to check in daily and let us know how you are doing. I think most of us are already doing a lot of these things, because we are already very aware, but let's keep it up and find ways to add more to our daily routine.

OK guys, I see a number of you started this challenge, but haven't checked in to let us know how you are doing. Let's get on it. Tell us what you have been up to on your plastic free July!

My pup is a pretty good disposal system for scraps. She only gets real, home made foods, not packaged dogfood. I shop at Aldi's using my own bags and she eats pretty darn well!
